Using heat to curl and straighten your hair is surely an effective way to style hair, but did you realize just how much that damages your hair? Most adults choose to style hair with heat because it’s quicker, more efficient, and it tends to last longer (with half a can of hairspray).
But using heat is something of the past. With the splurge of information right at our fingertips, people are starting to catch on to the natural trend, and not just in the beauty department either. Frankly, using heat to style hair is bad. It damages hair to the brink of no return while creating a ton of other problems in the process.
Learn how to style hair without heat naturally. Soon you’ll see that styling without heat is so much easier (and healthier) for you and your hair.
No-Heat Straight Hair
There are several tricks you can do to straighten your hair without using heat. To start, make sure to squeeze drip your hair after getting out of the shower. Let air dry or pat down with a soft towel using straight-down motions.
After letting hair drip dry for twenty minutes, take a comb and detangle hair. Use a detangling spray or after-shower serum if desired.
Next, separate hair into three sections. Blow dry each section using the cool setting (no heat!) as you brush your hair straight from top-down. Once dry, avoid spraying any moisture (even hairspray) to avoid your hair from reforming kinks or curls.
Continue cool drying your hair while you straighten it with a comb or round barrel brush. Your hair will be silky soft and straight without ever using heat!
No-Heat Wavy Hair
The easiest way to get lush waves in your hair is to braid your hair after a shower and sleeping on it.
Use a wave enhancing shampoo in the shower to prepare this look. Once your hair, let hair air dry for 15-20 minutes. Squeeze out excess moisture by scrunching hair with a towel. Then, apply a thin layer of sea salt spray to give your hair a tousled texture. Let air dry again.
Next, braid hair into two parts (for more short waves) or into one large braid (for longer waves). French braids or Dutch braids work best to create natural wavy hair.
Sleep on your braids overnight using a silky pillow (or wrap your head in a silk scarf). In the morning, take out your braids and finger brush your hair. Spritz a little hairspray to keep waves in place and to reduce frizz. Now you have natural waves using no-heat!
No-Heat Curly Hair
To curl your hair naturally without heat, you’ll need to repeat the same steps as you would do for wavy hair except this time wrap and twist your hair instead of braiding it.
To get ultra defined curls, you have several options. Fabric wrap, foam rollers, and headbands all work perfectly to get curls (depending on your curl preference). Foam rollers and fabric wraps essentially mimic what a curling iron would do, except no heat is used.
Headbands and bobby pins however, help to create curls by wrapping or twisting hair and securing in place to let sit overnight. This works best if hair is slightly damp while twisting and wrapping. In the morning, when your hair is dry, take out the pins and bands and enjoy your bouncy curls!
How to style hair without heat is easy once you are aware of all the no-heat tricks and tips. Just follow these steps and you’ll be that much closer to healthier, happier hair.
